De confetti in het Peacock Theater in Los Angeles is neergedaald en de beeldjes zijn verdeeld. The Game Awards 2025 gaan de boeken in als de editie van de grote verrassing. Waar iedereen vooraf inzette op een nek-aan-nekrace tussen de grote blockbusters, ging een Franse RPG er met vrijwel alles vandoor. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is de absolute koning van de avond. De game van Sandfall Interactive pakte maar liefst negen awards, waaronder de felbegeerde Game of the Year.
Toch waren er ook lichtpuntjes voor andere titels. Grand Theft Auto VI bewijst dat de hype nog lang niet voorbij is door (voor het tweede jaar op rij) de prijs voor Most Anticipated Game te pakken. Ook Nintendo deed goede zaken in de familie-categorieën met de hit Mario Kart World.
